We have over 60 students studying a three year Acupuncture course accredited by the British Acupuncture Accreditation Board (BAAB) in connection with the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC), the main professional body in the UK, with whom our clinic practitioners and teachers are registered.
Our Clinic serves as Teaching Clinic for these students, providing superb opportunities for students to observe experienced acupuncturists at work and to learn, through direct experience, the practice of acupuncture under the close supervision of experienced Registered Acupuncturists.
There are a number of different appointments that are available in our student clinic, and availability for them may change at various times of the year according to the student’s timetables.
Group Sessions (Year 2 & Year 3)
These are held with a group of four second year or final year students working fully supervised at all times by an experienced Registered Acupuncturist. One of the student in the group, i.e.’ the lead student’ will take your medical history while the others listen and take notes. They will discuss your case and the lead student will treat you with the guidance of his/ her supervisor.
The whole session takes 2 hours and at the end of the session you will be advised when it would be best to come for a follow up session. It is usual to leave at least a week to two weeks between treatments to see how you have responded.
Supervised / Trainee Clinic (Final Year Students in Year 3)
These are ‘one-to-one’ treatments with a final year student, supervised by a Registered Acupuncturist. Students will take a case history and decide on a treatment strategy before discussing and confirming it with the supervisor who may make recommendations or suggestions.
The student will take a detailed history of your health along with any relevant medical information. Please tell them about any medical conditions such as high blood pressure, epilepsy, diabetes etc; together with any medications or other treatments you may be taking. If there is anything you are unclear about, please feel free to ask for an explanation. Anything discussed will remain completely confidential.
These sessions are approximately an hour and a half.
