Other treatments available
Alongside acupuncture, ICOM offers other re-balancing and relaxing treatments with experienced therapists, sometimes also in conjunction with acupuncture. You can check on which days these treatments are available here or by calling the clinic on 01342 313106.
Aromatherapy
The therapeutic effects vary from oil to oil and a blend is chosen according to symptoms and root cause identified through a detailed consultation, tongue and body diagnosis according to Chinese Medicine principles.
The chosen unique energetic blend of oils is applied through therapeutic massage incorporating selected acupressure points and massage along meridians, a network of channels throughout the body carrying vital energy, blood, fluids and nutrients.
Aromatherapy Massage, along with being relaxing and balancing as an individual treatment, can help with a wide range of health issues including stress, digestive disorders, headaches, muscular conditions, arthritis, menstrual disorders and pregnancy. For chronic conditions a longer period of treatment is advised.
Book an Aromatherapy Massage with ourexperienced acupuncturists Rebecca Wheatley and Jocelyne Houghton, who are both fully qualified aromatherapists with over 35 years of experience between them.
Hot Stone Massage
Hot stone massage is a specialty massage where the therapist uses smooth, heated stones as an extension of their own hands, or by placing them on the body. The penetrating heat and weight of the Hot Stones warms the muscles allowing for a deeper massage and sense of relaxation. The stones used are typically river rocks or other very smooth-surfaced stones made of basalt which retain the heat during the massage. Hot stone massage is thought to have several beneficial effects both physical and psychological, such as:
- improved circulation
- pain relief
- muscle relaxation and release of stored tension
- recharged energy levels
- cleansing of the Lymphatic system
- relaxation of mental stress and tension
- it eases symptoms of anxiety and depression
You can book your Hot Stone Massage with Suzi Broad who is a qualified acupuncturist and masseur. She has been working as a massage therapist since 1999 and trained in Hot Stone massage in 2002 in Italy, where she worked as Spa Manager and Head Therapist.

Personal Yoga Tuition
Yoga is an ancient art of self-healing and development. Practices range from very physical to very still and meditative. Yoga can be used by anybody, no matter what age or physical condition, to improve their quality of life by strengthening and healing the body and mind. Once a practice is learnt, it can easily be done at home.
The benefits of yoga increase as you do it more regularly. Whether you are a novice to yoga, are recovering from injury or trauma or simply want to deepen an existing yoga practice, Kirsten can help you to develop a simple or elaborate yoga practice catered for your individual needs. This can be used as a daily practice at home and can vary from 5 minutes to 1 hour long.
Practices can include:
Asana – physical exercises
strengthen and balance the body – suitable for healthy people as well as people recovering from injury, postpartum or suffering from chronic illness.
Pranayama – breathing exercises
balance the emotions and mind – suitable for anybody who wants to increase their energy and find stillness as well as flow inside themselves.
Meditation – mental exercises
strengthen, calm and clear the mind – suitable for anyone who wishes to get in touch with the heart of being and feel connected.
Yoga is taught by our acupuncturist and clinic supervisor Kirsten Germann who has been practising and studying yoga since 1988, teaching since 1996, both in the UK and abroad.
Facial Acupuncture
Our faces show our state of being. Predominant emotions, tensions and physical conditions may, over the years manifest in the form of wrinkles, lines, uneven colouring. Facial Acupuncture works by stimulating the vitality within the skin; the skin is nourished and revitalised, collagen is produced and as some of those tensions are released, a feeling of relaxation and lightness can be experienced, which on the outside results in a younger looking face!
In Chinese medical theory our face expresses the state of our spirit; as practitioners, we observe the face in diagnostic practice; clear eyes, plumb and blood infused cheeks resonate with a vibrant, healthy internal world. While dryness and loss of elasticity for example, may be a chronic internal inability of the body to take-in, process and distribute fluids appropriately throughout the body.
At ICOM we offer:
Facial Holistic Acupuncture
During this treatment, aimed at improving the look and radiance of your face keeping into account your overall well being, the pulse is taken and needles may be inserted not only on the face but in other parts of the body for your general balance.
Facial Enhancement Acupuncture
You will receive a facial cleansing treatment and massage with oils before this treatment that is purely cosmetic and focuses mainly on points and muscles of the face in order to improve elasticity of your skin and overall appearance.
