Lecturer/ Module Leader in Western Anatomy and Physiology (Year 1 and 2)

ICOM is seeking a suitably qualified and enthusiastic Western Anatomy and Physiology Lecturer to deliver Year 1 and 2 teaching on its professional acupuncture and Chinese medicine programmes.

This role plays a vital part in providing students with a strong biomedical foundation that supports safe, effective, and integrated acupuncture practice. The successful candidate will bring clear subject expertise, an appreciation of clinical relevance, and an ability to communicate complex concepts to students at the beginning of their training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality teaching in Western anatomy and physiology to Year 1 and 2 acupuncture students
  • Cover core foundational topics such as:
    • Cellular and tissue anatomy
    • Musculoskeletal, nervous, cardiovascular, respiratory, and other key body systems
    • Basic physiological processes relevant to acupuncture and clinical practice
  • Prepare and deliver lectures, seminars, and learning materials aligned with the ICOM curriculum
  • Design and mark assessments in accordance with academic and professional standards
  • Support students’ understanding of Western biomedical concepts and their relevance to acupuncture safety and practice
  • Contribute to course review, curriculum development, and quality assurance processes
  • Attend academic meetings, staff development sessions, and examination boards as required
  • Work collaboratively with Chinese medicine and clinical faculty to support an integrated learning experience
    • ANA teaching is orientated toward surface anatomy in relation to Point Location
    • PHY teaching is orientated toward Western Pathology teaching and focuses on RED FLAG identification and limits to competence.

Essential Criteria

Applicants must demonstrate:

  • Relevant biomedical training and/or professional experience in anatomy, physiology, medicine, healthcare, or a related discipline
  • A strong working knowledge of human anatomy and physiology appropriate to undergraduate-level teaching
  • The ability to communicate scientific concepts clearly to adult learners, including those without a prior science background
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A commitment to high standards of education, student support, and professional practice

Desirable Criteria

  • Previous teaching or lecturing experience, particularly in higher education or professional training
  • A qualification in education or teaching (or willingness to undertake training)
  • Experience teaching anatomy and physiology for acupuncture, complementary medicine, or healthcare programmes
  • An interest in interdisciplinary or integrative healthcare education

Lecturer in Chinese Medicine (Year 1)

Role Overview

The International College of Oriental Medicine (ICOM) is seeking a knowledgeable and committed Chinese Medicine Lecturer to teach Year 1 students on its professional acupuncture and Chinese medicine program.

This role is central to delivering high-quality foundational education in Chinese medicine, ensuring students develop a strong grounding in classical theory, diagnosis, and professional practice aligned with British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) standards.

The successful candidate will combine solid clinical experience with a passion for teaching and mentoring future practitioners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging and academically rigorous teaching to Year 1 Chinese medicine students, in line with the ICOM curriculum
  • Teach foundational subjects such as:
    • Chinese medicine theory (e.g. Yin–Yang, Five Elements, Zang Fu)
    • Introduction to diagnosis and pattern differentiation
    • Fundamentals of acupuncture and Chinese medical practice
  • Prepare lesson plans, teaching materials, and assessments that meet BAcC accreditation requirements
  • Assess student learning through written work, practical assessments, and examinations
  • Provide academic guidance and pastoral support to students in their first year of training
  • Participate in curriculum development, moderation, and quality assurance processes
  • Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and academic boards as required
  • Uphold and model professional, ethical, and clinical standards expected of BAcC practitioners
  • Contribute positively to the academic community of the College

Essential Criteria

Applicants must demonstrate:

  • A minimum of five years’ clinical practice as a Chinese medicine or acupuncture practitioner
  • A British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) accredited qualification in acupuncture and/or Chinese medicine
  • Current membership of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC)
  • Sound knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine theory appropriate to undergraduate level
  • Ability to teach clearly and effectively to adult learners
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • ·Commitment to high academic and professional standards

Desirable Criteria

  • Previous teaching or lecturing experience in higher education or professional training
  • A recognised teaching qualification or training in education
  • Experience working with first-year or foundation-level students
  • Interest in classical Chinese medicine and its contemporary application
  • Experience contributing to course development or academic administration

Clinic Receptionist (occasional bank cover)

We are seeking a reliable and friendly part-time Receptionist to provide bank cover at our small but busy Acupuncture Clinic in East Grinstead.

Our clinic serves hundreds of patients from the local community each month and also operates as a student teaching clinic, supporting our integrated training college. This is a varied and rewarding role at the heart of a welcoming healthcare environment.

This role is ideal for someone who is organised, personable, and enjoys working in a patient-focused.

You will be part of a friendly, professional team and will report to the General Manager. This role is a crucial post within the clinic and will therefore suit a personable and experienced receptionist with strong communication and inter-personal skills. We are looking for an individual who works well within a team but also has the confidence to take initiative when working independently. Excellent organisation skills are important as well as a calm and professional manner.

Main Tasks

  • Welcoming patients as ‘front of house’ for the ICOM Clinic. The receptionist must be warm, welcoming, friendly and well presented.
  • Responsible for answering telephone calls so an excellent and reliable phone manner is essential
  • Booking appointments
  • Answering emails
  • Calling patients at practitioners’ request
  • Filing
  • Taking payments from patients
  • Opening up the clinic in the morning and closing securely in the evening
